A runner’s high

In the fall, as the leaves turn to gold
I feel the presence of God unfold
With each stride and step I take
My spirit comes alive and starts to wake.

The solitude that running produces
Allows my heart to open up to Jesus
With the beauty of nature all around
I feel His love in every sound.

The sun’s beams gently kiss my skin
As the wind rushes past with a grin
The sound of birds chirping in delight
Adds to the peacefulness of the sight.

Leaves crunching underfoot remind me
Of all the sins from which He set me free
The freedom from distractions so grand
I’m free to worship, to lift up my hands.

On the trail, serendipitous interactions
With strangers are some divine attractions
Feeling connected with others who run
We unite as we bask in a race already won.

The feeling of joy that’s hard to explain
As I run and call on Jesus’ name
I am most connected to God when running
It’s where my soul finds its homecoming.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
—Hebrews 12:1
