Joyous: A Song of Seraphim

Joyous

A psalm of Seraphim

“Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel” –Isaiah 12:5-6

Antiphon: I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

My sorrow runs deep, and pain bites at my flesh. Fear surrounds me; my heart cannot find rest. All my love ceases, and my heart is sent into exile. Those I love rebuke me and find no sympathy for my plight.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

I call upon the name of my God, He who dwells in Zion. LORD, hear the cries of my heart. Hear me, O God, for I cannot go on; my spirit grows weary by the day, and my body trails behind.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

My mind thinks of nothing but anguish and fear. Anxiety creeps in the night while death prowls in the day. My sin haunts my every moment.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

I look to the sky and cry for you, O LORD, why do you not respond? I look within the depths for you, my God, why do you not respond? Why are you so far, my God! Come to my assistance! Come!

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

I weep because of my sin. All I have done is gross before my face. I grow despondent, and my head hangs low, awaiting condemnation.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

But you, O LORD, look upon me with mercy while I drown in guilt. Your kindness scatters my shame and renews my soul. I shout from the depths of my sorrow that the LORD, the God of Israel, is good.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

I shout with joyous praise and proclaim the mighty deeds of the Holy One of Israel. For He scatters the proud, bends the knee of the haughty, exalts the humble, and glorifies the meek. O how blessed are the seraphim who dwell in His midst. Higgaion.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

Joy, O LORD, is what you give to those willing to receive from the abundance of your mercy. Joy floods my heart with warmth, and my mind finds contentment as it reflects on your mighty deeds.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

Your name is ointment upon my lips. My body dances before your holy house. Be with me all the days of my life, LORD, for I am crippled without you.

I sing to the LORD from the depths of my sorrow

Blessed is he who seeks refuge in the LORD, for he is like a bulwark against the storm. He is a fig tree that bears the fruit of joy, pleasing to the eye and good for the body. My God is the LORD of joy. He is the fulfillment of my joy. O LORD, how long until I have abundant joy with you?

Selah.
